The neighborhood, Hwanghak-dong, is just packed full of all types of stuff! This is definitely a COOL place to visit if you're in Seoul. It's like stepping into a time machine, and going back 20, 30, or 40 years into Korea's past. You can even visit the "Retro Market" space on the 2nd floor, where you can listen to popular vinyl albums from the 1960s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, as well as try on Gyobok (교복), the old school uniforms many Korean students wore long time ago. Directions: Dongmyo Station (동묘앞역) on Line 1, Exit 3. or Sinseol-dong Station (신설동역) on Line 1 & 2, Exit 6, 9 or 10. Walking time is about 5 minutes from either subway station. The market is open from 10:00 - 19:00, and restaurants inside are open until 22:00. The market is closed every 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month. The facilities are wheel-chair accessible in most parts, there are a few ATM machines, and many vendors accept credit card. There is nearby parking across the street and in surrounding areas. ➤ SUBSCRIBE: https://goo.gl/pBpoBg ➤ Support me on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/feedthecory ➤ Website: http://www.feedthecory.com ➤ Facebook: http://fb.me/feedthecory ➤ Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/feedthecory ➤ Twitter: http://twitter.com/feedthecory Do you have any questions, comments, suggestions, want to sponsor or collaborate with me, or want to meet up and eat yummy food together? 서울 풍물 시장, 과거와 오늘의 보물창고 Now if you are looking for a different sort of cultural experience... this may be your alternative. How about an adventure to a local market? Arirang News' Hwang Ho-jun takes on a walk down memory land. The Seoul Folk Flea Market is not the typical tourist hot spot, with its rows of retro items, traditional crafts and antiques. And it's a place that's foreign even to some Seoulites. But it isn't uncommon to find foreigners scavenging around. "I think just looking for authenticity instead of stereotypical souvenir items. We don't tend to buy things from museum shops because everyone can buy one of them. Flea markets are more one of a kind items." The market can trace its origins back to the fifties, and a cluster of street shops and vendors in the Hwanghak-dong neighborhood around the Cheonggyecheon Stream. In 2004, when Seoul began restoring the stream, the vendors were relocated a few blocks over to Dongdaemun Stadium. A few years later, when Seoul decided to renovate the stadium, too, the vendors had to relocate once again, this time to the market's current location in Sinseol-dong. Since it's grand re-opening in 2008, the market has grown to include at least 840 vendors selling an eclectic mix of kitschy keepsakes and rare finds. To safeguard the facility for generations to come, Seoul has even designated it a so-called "future heritage" site. "There are goods and items that will be much more difficult to find in the next ten years. The Seoul Folk Flea Market is a place where young people can experience the culture their parents once enjoyed." Speaking of which, there are more than just novelty and retro stores that make the Seoul Folk Flea Market so special. When you travel up to the second floor, nostalgia becomes reality. "Welcome to the sixties This is Cheongchun First Avenue -- a reconstruction of a typical Seoul street from half a century ago. For Koreans of a certain generation, it's like a walk down memory lane, with replica shops offering souvenirs and other nostalgic knickknacks. There's even a retro tea room that visitors both young and old can appreciate." This section of the market is special for its commitment to young business owners, especially those selling handmade items,... who can apply for one of the many spaces reserved for this class of entrepreneurs. To some, the Seoul Folk Flea Market may seem too grungy for visitors. To others, the fact that it's been relatively untouched by big corporations is what allows it to capture a piece of "the real Korea." "So this is quite unique. I think it's quite different. It's no t-shirt, saying, 'I love Korea.' It's, you know...Korea is here. This is it. It's real." In other words, it's the perfect place for an urban treasure hunt in Korea. Hwang Hojun, Arirang News. The maze-like Insadong streets are a fantastic hunting ground for first-time arrivals, since shops and restaurant choices are almost invariably traditional exerting a magnetic draw on visitors. The face of Insadong changes three times a day. In the early morning, it is a quiet and peacefule street, in the afternoon, it becomes busy with groups of overseas tourists and at night, you will find that Insadong is a place where people, Koreans and foreigners alike, enjoy taking a stroll and simply hanging out in the tranquil surroundings. The main street is filled with shops selling antiques, old books, paintings, ceramics and hanbok, the traditional Korean costume. Insadong is also home to many traditional restaurants, cafés and tea houses where you can enjoy an afternoon tea and a rice cake snack, elegantly decorated and hand-made. Half Day Compilation Footage Sightseeing in Seoul, Korea. Destination for the day: Ice Gallery(아이스갤러리), Address: 43, Bukchon-ro 5-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul 서울특별시 종로구 북촌로5길 43 (화동). Early in the day it was the worst rain ever. It looked like night time. We all bought umbrellas in the underground 동대문 Dongdaemun or 남대문 Namdaemun (gotta double check) market. We cruised through the massive market area underground and ended up buying face masks from the ajuma you see in the beginning. There were some amazing antiques there such as old rotary phones and clocks. Not sure why there is such an abundance of antique items for sale but they are real and me being the history buff that I am, I wanted to buy everything! When we finally got to Ice Gallery the sun was out and it was nice. The gallery is amazing and I can't imagine being an ice sculptor unless you really love to be in the cold! It was a whole ice world and I gotta say I was so impressed with it. Lots of people pass through the museum and you gotta be careful when you wanna go lay on the ice bed or sit on the ice chairs because they are very slippery and you could fall and knock your teeth out! Luckily that didn't happen and all the adventures of getting to the ice museum was worth it. After, we walked to Tea Therapy Haengnang (Anguk-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul) and had Hanbang Patbingsu (Tea Therapy Bingsu) and then outside did a complimentary foot bath with tea extract which is great for relaxation and just a few bucks extra. The street behind is a small one and mostly locals walking by after school and work. The area is very quiet and nothing you would expect to be within the Seoul city limits. The Hanok village was near, but on this particular day we didn't go. After our foot bath we caught a ride to Pop Container Cafe in 신촌 Sinchon, Address: 5-11, Changjeon-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. (near Ewha women's university station....i think. IDK too much stuff in one day i'm trying to figure out where i was exactly. After this, we walked around in Sinchon and Hongdae) We had the giant Oreo bingsu and it was awesome. The cafe is trendy with mostly university students and the area is perfect for walking around and in our case, if you get lost, the people were very nice and helped us find our way.

Aired: July 15, 2016 Culasi is a small municipality in Antique with around 40,000 total population. Located at the northern part of Antique, the municipality is around 90 kilometers away from the famous town of Kalibo. This place became a tourist destination in 2014 because of its so-called ‘hidden gem island’ named Mararison. Discovered as a Batanes-like island, Mararison became a source of income amongsts the locals by having them as tour guides, renting for boat rides and the stay-in motels.
